Abuja - The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) has moved the local government election from next month to August followed pleas from
representation of several political parties.
It has reduced the nomination fees by half.
The election, initially scheduled for August 2, would now be held on September 6.
Chairman of KTSIEC, Alhaji Lawal Garba Malumfashi, confirmed the dates and the lowering of the nomination fees.
"The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission has carefully considered and reflected on these pleas and appeals and decided to extend the 6+ days notice by additional 35 days. The commission has reduced the nomination fees payable by candidates for election by 50 percent," he said.
Malumfashi said because of the extension, political parties who have not filled and completed nomination forms are now given three weeks to do so.
He further said the commission had revised the election time table.
The schedule, he said, was now available for political parties to collect.
